AI Supplier Search: Finding A Candidate And Checking The Job
An industrial supplier can sell the right equipment while leaving important parts of a buyer's job unanswered. For a marketing manager, that's a useful website test: can someone establish what your company does, how you deliver it and where they need to ask an engineer?
We examined AI supplier search against five historical compressed-air buying cases. All 120 candidate-by-requirement rows have now received machine-assisted source inspection. The findings concern published evidence, with no human engineering endorsement of the suppliers or their suitability.
One Product Category, Different Buying Jobs
Glass Futures, a glass-industry research organisation, wanted a complete compressed-air facility in St Helens. Its 2022 notice covered design through commissioning, high- and low-pressure systems, controls compatibility, condensate arrangements and a ten-year service proposal. Numerical pressures and flows weren't supplied in the Glass Futures notice (find-tender.service.gov.uk).
Capestone Organic Poultry's 2021 commission was for system design before a later equipment tender. The new project needed approximately 300 CFM at 8 bar, while existing facility demand still required measurement. The Capestone design notice (sell2wales.gov.wales) also specified design documents and drawings.
The Centre for Process Innovation's 2020 manufacturing process-air upgrade required a new variable-speed primary compressor, retaining the existing fixed-speed machine as backup. Validation, monitoring and heat recovery formed part of the CPI upgrade description (contractsfinder.service.gov.uk).
For suppliers planning SEO for air compressor companies, these sources raise concrete content questions. Does your site explain design commissions, installation scope and existing-system upgrades as clearly as it lists equipment?
Two Further Cases Have Different Evidence Limits
The Royal Mint's 2023 notice (find-tender.service.gov.uk) named variable-speed and fixed-speed compressors, an air-management system, and supply through commissioning. Its detailed portal specification wasn't retrieved. The normalised requirements include simple product offerings, with pressures, flows and interfaces unknown.
Penzance Dry Dock's 2024 procurement provided a more detailed original specification, covering a compressed-air ring, pipework, electrical work, warranty and coastal marine conditions. We used the original attachment to the Penzance notice (contractsfinder.service.gov.uk). A later clarification spreadsheet was unavailable, so this case doesn't reconstruct the final clarified specification.
Across the five cases, 15 completed supplier-search requests produced 30 candidate appearances and 120 requirement rows. Repeated appearances aren't independent suppliers or buying cases.
What The Complete Source Inspection Found
The first review covered the model's 28 positive rows and one contradicted row. Of the positives, seven had full literal capability coverage, 18 partial coverage and three generic capability. The pipework contradiction wasn't established: listing alternative systems didn't explicitly exclude the requested material and dimensions.
We then inspected all 91 remaining rows, originally labelled “not established”. The 53 pilot rows yielded 13 partial, 24 generic and 16 unobserved requirements. In the 38 expansion rows, later evidence established ten full capability appearances, alongside 12 partial, five generic and 11 unobserved requirements.
A separate follow-up also changed one previously positive Compressor Solutions row from generic to full coverage. The current classifications below include that change. They describe textual coverage across retained and later sources, with different requirement granularity between cases. They cannot be read as comparable accuracy rates.

| Collection | Rows | Full capability | Partial requirement | Generic capability | Not observed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original three-case pilot | 72 | 5 | 25 | 26 | 16 |
| Two-case expansion | 48 | 13 | 18 | 5 | 12 |
“Full” means the published capability explicitly covers the normalised requirement. It doesn't certify engineering fitness or acceptance of the buyer's project. “Not observed” describes the inspected sources, rather than supplier incapability.
The ten newly established uncertain rows all concerned the Royal Mint's simpler offerings. None of the 53 uncertain pilot rows gained full compound-requirement coverage. These observations form part of our B2B SEO research programme.
Later Pages Can Resolve A Capability Question
Control Gear's compressor range (controlgear.net) explicitly lists fixed-speed offerings and compressor controls. Compressor Solutions' sales page (compressorsolutionsltd.co.uk) explicitly offers variable-speed compressors. These later passages supplied evidence beyond the original retained extracts. Several rows repeat the same supplier capability, so eleven follow-up upgrades don't represent eleven independent suppliers.
Airmatic Compressors' data-logging service page (airmatic-compressors.co.uk) describes measuring air demand and flow, then analysing facility usage. That covers the published measurement capability needed by Capestone. Its original tool extract stopped in navigation. A later capture supplied the detailed passages. Later evidence corroborates capability but doesn't establish that the original model had access to those passages.
Direct Air's pharmaceutical upgrade case study (directair.co.uk) supports variable-speed upgrade experience. Its retained original tool text doesn't establish CPI's complete new-primary and retained-fixed-speed-backup arrangement. That source limit leaves a question for the supplier.
What Industrial Marketers Can Put On Their Sites
Start with the buying job your team can deliver. A design page can explain demand measurement, design outputs and what happens before equipment selection. An installation case study can show the old system, the work delivered and the constraints your team handled.
Name the relevant conditions. If a project retained an existing backup unit, explain that arrangement. If an audit measures changing production demand, say what you measure and what the customer receives. Ask your technical team to check the wording.
Keep quotation questions visible too. Published capability can coexist with unresolved site access, interfaces and final scope. Our questions to ask an SEO agency can help you examine how an agency gathers evidence and checks claims.

Method, Limits And Commercial Interest
The searches ran on 16 October 2026 using Claude Sonnet 5.5 through its API, identifier `claude-sonnet-5-5`. Each normalised brief received three fresh requests. Each allowed two candidates, three web searches and three fetches, with 4,000 fetch-content tokens and 4,500 output tokens. Evidence and uncertainty were explicitly requested.
The five cases were selected purposively. Historical notices from 2020–2024 were compared retrospectively with current supplier pages checked on 16 October 2026.
Public sources are incomplete tender packs. This wasn't a consumer Claude, ChatGPT or real-buyer experiment. Source access and extract truncation constrain what can be assessed.
SEO Yolo sells SEO services. Control Gear is an existing direct agency client and remains included, with three candidate appearances in the pilot. No private client analytics were used. Human technical review remains necessary for procurement suitability.

Source visibility matters: a later capture can corroborate capability without establishing what the original model saw.
