The client: Search Air

Search Air sells, installs and services compressed air systems for factories across Yorkshire and the East Midlands. Its online shop runs at compressive.co.uk. We've worked with them for over two years.

Our contact there is Paul Newsholme, Sales Manager for Compressed Air. Each month we send Paul a short set of bullet points he can drop straight into his report for the senior management team. That tells you something about the job. The SEO has to make sense to people who don't care about SEO.

Key takeaways
1Search clicks rose from 584 to 861 between July and September 2025 and the same months of 2026, an increase of 47%.
2Clicks from searches that didn't mention the company name more than doubled, from 66 to 135.
3ChatGPT named Search Air in four of our five buyer test questions, and first for leak detection near Doncaster.

What we did

Search Air already had a solid name in its area. The gap was the buyers who didn't know it yet: the maintenance manager in Sheffield with a compressor that keeps overheating, or the operations lead in Nottingham trying to work out what size of compressor they need.

So we built the site around those questions.

  • Tools buyers actually use. An air leak cost calculator and a compressor sizing calculator. Both now bring in steady clicks from people working out a real problem.
  • Practical guides. Compressor overload, overheating and tripping, filters, oils, single-stage against two-stage, and a weekly maintenance checklist.
  • Industry pages. A page for food and drink manufacturers, who need oil-free air and food safety evidence.
  • Service and location pages. Air compressor servicing across the towns Search Air covers, written to the company's own naming and title rules.

The results

The table compares July to September 2025 with July to September 2026.

Organic sessions in Google Analytics 4 tell the same story. In August 2025 there were 153. In August 2026 there were 267.

The guides and calculators did most of the lifting on clicks. They also do a second job. A reader who came for an answer should be able to see who to call when the fix needs an engineer.

What ChatGPT says about them

Every month we ask ChatGPT five questions a buyer in the region might ask, three times each, with web search switched on. In the latest check, Search Air was named in four.

It came first for the question about compressed air leaks at a factory near Doncaster, and first for "We're looking for an Atlas Copco distributor in Yorkshire or Nottinghamshire".

Talk to the client

Paul Newsholme has agreed to speak to businesses considering working with us. If you'd like to hear how it's gone from his side, get in touch and we'll put you in contact.

How we measured this

Every search figure on this page comes from the client's own Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 accounts. We compare July to September 2025 with July to September 2026 because that gives a like-for-like season. The ChatGPT results come from our own monthly tests.

We use clicks, not impressions or average position. In September 2025 Google changed how results pages are counted, and almost every website's impressions fell and average position "improved" overnight. Clicks weren't affected, so clicks are what we show.

Google also hides the wording of some searches for privacy. Figures for searches without the company name only count the searches it does show, so the real numbers are higher.
